Hump Day Quickie 17

2022 is right around the corner, and I'm counting down my favourite content pieces of the year. Here are some of the best books I read in 2021: some old, some new, some borrowed, and some just plain strange.... 📚

  • Crying in H Mart, Michelle Zauner: A beautiful memoir about identity and the loss of a mother. It's also filled with food porn, so don't read on an empty stomach.

  • Somebody's Daughter, Ashley C. Ford: Looking for a sad memoir about dads instead? Ashley Ford writes about growing up under the looming absence of her incarcerated father.

  • Anxious People, Fredrik Backman: A hilarious story about strangers, depression, and a bank robber. I laughed, I cried, and finished the whole thing in two sittings.

  • The 12 Week Year, Brian P Morgan: My new productivity Bible.

  • With Teeth, Kristen Arnett: A surprising and bleak story of two mothers with a difficult son. The strangest book I've read since Kristen Arnett's last publication, Mostly Dead Things, which of course I also loved.

  • The Poet X, Elizabeth Acevedo: Look. I hate slam poetry, but I love this book.

  • Small Pleasures, Clare Chambers: A portrait of a London writer in 1957 who just wants to find love and break free from responsibility. Also, she's investigating a virgin birth. 'Tis the season!

  • The Secret History, Donna Tartt: Greek history? Murder? Pretentious New England Students? This book has it all.
